Londolozi Game Reserve

What kind of traveller would this property suit?

The brilliant thing about Londolozi is that it has a lots of variety. It has four camps – separate but close together – with different features. So, there’s something for everyone – you could even combine or take over the whole camp.

What in your opinion are some of the most standout/impressive features about the property?

It’s hands down the best game experience I’ve ever had – they’re in a very special location geographically and it’s no secret the game viewing is hard to beat (think leopards on every drive). The camps are run separately but are just a few minutes’ walk from one another. It’s a cool setup – in that you can go and have a drink at another camp and be social or enjoy your own space.

What is the service at the property like?

It’s uniquely impressive because it’s a very high standard but at the same time, it’s not overly formal. Staff are friendly – your guide joins you for some meals.

Tell us about the food (if applicable)?

I was impressed by the food as it wasn’t overly formal. Good (not too big) portion sizes, and healthy, interesting options, with a bit of an Asian fusion influence – little bit more modern that traditional safari fare. And naturally they cater to all dietaries.

How would you describe this property in a few sentences to someone wanting to book it?

Iconic – it has a special atmosphere. It feels like hallowed ground. And that carries through in the team and the culture. The family owned spirit lives on – they’re great with children. It’s refined and traditional but not flashy or over the top.

What activities are available to do there?

Game viewing, birdwatching, bush walks, sundowner stops and bush dinners and breakfasts.

Tell us about the journey to get to the destination – what are the logistics like in terms of travel time, transport etc?

There are a couple of ways to get there. You can fly from Joburg on CemAir to the Mala Mala airstrip – which is a short game drive from the lodge. You can also get there with Federal Air from Nelspruit or Joburg. And it’s an hour-and-a-half drive from Skukuka International Airport.

What do you recommend to a guest in terms of a minimum length of stay for this property?

Three as a minimum.

What time of year would this property be at optimal enjoyment?

It’s good all year round but I like in-between seasons – the sweet spot for me is autumn and spring because the weather is temperate.

What is unique about this property?

It has a really special feeling. It’s timeless. They’re also famous for having the hardest-to-pass guide training which means the guides are world class.
