Summer Season

The end is in sight – summer is coming

And just like that, we find ourselves back in September, starting to see the first signs of spring in the
southern hemisphere, and staring down the barrel of the end of year– and all the madness, deadlines
and frenzied plan-making that come with that. What it also means though, is that summer holidays are
coming full speed towards us…

So, if you have already secured year-end bookings and made plans, well done. if you haven’t, here are
some of the reasons you should get going as soon as possible. But don’t panic – we are here to help with
all of it.

Why is August already on the late side?

December to February is peak season in Cape Town and the Western Cape, which means that it’s the
most in-demand period of the year for the region, and gets booked up fast. Cape Town is not a huge city
either, so while it’s exceedingly well-equipped for tourism, it’s still small compared with some other
global destinations, and so accommodation of a certain standard does eventually get booked out. So, if
you want your pick (and peace of mind), it helps to get ahead of the crowds. Booking early also provides
more flexibility in choosing travel dates and itineraries, allowing you to potentially find better deals and
avoid the busiest periods.

That said, our local connections, relationships and private villa portfolio means that even if the city is
filling up, we can find you beautiful spaces to stay and seats at the city’s hottest tables. Even tickets to a
booked our sports fixture or two…

Why is the Western Cape so popular in December?

With warm sunny days – and little chance of rain (Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate), it’s the best
time of year to enjoy the plentiful activities, and spaces the region offers. Spotting sealife from a kayak,
paragliding off Lion’s Head mountain or swimming with penguins at Boulders Beach are all more
enjoyable in the sunshine on a clear day, as is dining alfresco with a sea view.
The festive season is a good time to enjoy the huge array of culinary options, from fine-dining
restaurants to casual eateries and food markets the Mother City is known for. Excursions to popular
sights (and sites) like Table Mountain, Robben Island and the Winelands too, are best enjoyed in the
summer months (and these can be booked in advance to secure your spot and avoid long queues for the
most part – we can advise further here).

Off peak options

But if you get to this on your to-do list and find that the accommodation you set your heart on isn’t
available anymore, and you're able to be flexible with your travel dates, you won’t miss out. Visiting
during the shoulder seasons (March to May) is also good for potentially lower prices and fewer crowds.

The weather is still mostly good, and you can find loads of space on the beach and skip queues at the
city’s hottest spots.
In short, there’s never a bad time to come to Cape Town – chat to us for more insights and advice.
We’re ready and waiting for you.
