Colina Verde, Mozambique

What kind of traveller would this property suit?
Multi-generational, groups of friends, milestone birthday parties, or just a regular family getaway to paradise.

What in your opinion are some of the most standout/impressive features about the property?
Incredible views, nature, privacy, staff, food, design, feeling… Just couldn’t get enough of it.

What is the service at the property like?
The service was knockout. For me the best kind – highly professional yet casual, friendly and relaxed.

Tell us about the food (if applicable)…
Fresh, not too rich – it felt home-cooked and was served family style, rather than individual portions. Again, my favourite type of dining.

How would you describe this property in a few sentences to someone wanting to book it?
In a nutshell – we were emotional when the staff sang to us on arrival. When it was time to leave they sang again and we teared up, not wanting to leave!

What activities are available to do here?
So many. The dhow ride was amazing, fishing was next level and easy, the island day trip picnic was fantastic. There was so much to do that we sometimes forget that we could just relax at the villa and the pool or play tennis.

Tell us about the journey to get to the destination – what are the logistics like in terms of travel time, transport etc?
We flew into Maputo and got straight onto a chopper – direct to the lodge, 20 mins or so. When we left, we took a 70-minute speed boat to Maputo and then enjoyed a night at the Polana Serena Hotel and a good walk all over this brilliant city.

What do you recommend to a guest in terms of a minimum length of stay for this property?
I’d recommend three nights at least, but five or six would be much better.

What time of year would this property be at optimal enjoyment?
This is a year-round destination but spring and autumn are sweet spots. It can be hot and wet over December and there are some chilly days in winter.

What is unique about this property?
It’s right near a capital city but because it’s in a nature reserve, you honestly feel like you’re on a faraway tropical island. Moreover, the villa and staff and feeling of the place are practically unbeatable. A nice feature I didn’t expect to see was a magnificent viewing deck. And the dress-up cupboard was a surprise!
