The natural surroundings (Mkambati Nature Reserve) and how remote and untouched the area is.
The fact that when you go on drives you look on both the land and to the ocean for animal sightings is also really special.

While it wasn’t open to the public yet, and the team was still in training, the service was already amazing.

Delicious – simple food done right. Enjoy feet-in-sand dining experiences and local ingredients fresh to your table. It’s also interactive – there’s both a pizza oven and a breakfast bar.
How would you describe this property in a few sentences to someone wanting to book it?
It’s an amazing opportunity to unplug from normal life and immerse yourself in the Wild Coast. It’s activity-oriented and nature/wildlife based but also beautifully designed and has incredible views.
What activities are available to do there?
Swimming, hiking, cycling, snorkelling, kayaking, game viewing, and SUPing. There’s also a spa and hot tub.
Tell us about the journey to get to the destination – what are the logistics like in terms of travel time, transport etc?
It’s a 45-minute flight from Durban in a small plane to the GweGwe airstrip. You can also take a scenic 20-minute helicopter flight from Margate or a 75-minute boat ride from Port Edward. You can even self-drive if you prefer.
What do you recommend to a guest in terms of a minimum length of stay for this property?
A minimum of three nights to truly experience the benefits of GweGwe.
What time of year would this property be at optimal enjoyment?
Year-round as the ocean is warm, but more summer focused to maximise on optimal weather for outdoor activities.
What is unique about this property?
It’s situated on a stretch of coastline that is as untamed as it is beautiful, between dramatic cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, pockets of dense swamp forest and crystal-clear waters. Here you can enjoy a day of wildlife watching, beaching and exploring, before being lulled to sleep by the Indian Ocean.
