What kind of traveller would this property suit?
Ecca Lodge would suit multi-gen groups really well, and Great River Fish Lodge is great for couples/honeymooners.

What in your opinion are some of the most standout/impressive features about the property?
The size and beauty of the reserve – and the fact that it offers a change in landscape compared to other safari reserves in SA. The proximity to Cape Town and the Garden Route is a big plus. The rhino population and conservation efforts around the species also stand out.

What is the service at the property like?
Outstanding. We barely had to think about anything while we were there – the lodge and guiding staff are incredible.

Tell us about the food (if applicable)…
The food is delicious –  simple, wholesome food done extremely well. The lunch and breakfast spreads were very impressive and offered a wide variety of options.

How would you describe this property in a few sentences to someone wanting to book it?
Great Fish River Lodge is set along a river in a magnificent valley with incredible views. Each room is a standalone ‘house’ equipped with everything you need. It’s super private.

What activities are available to do there?
Game drives

Tell us about the journey to get to the destination – what are the logistics like in terms of travel time, transport etc?
It’s a 1hr15min flight from Cape Town to PE, followed by a two-hour road transfer to Kwandwe. Guests also have the option to heli in or charter a flight, as they have a tarred runway.

What do you recommend to a guest in terms of a minimum length of stay for this property?
We’d recommend 3 to 4 nights here.

What time of year would this property be at optimal enjoyment?
This property is good throughout the year.

What is unique about this property?
The fact that you can have a malaria-free premier safari experience that’s so accessible to Cape Town is amazing. It is also perfect for families/couples wanting to do a road trip along the garden route with a safari element added. The amount of rhino sightings is also something to note – as they are thriving at Kwandwe.
