The bigger picture – building purpose into travel

As one of South Africa’s leading safari specialists, we are committed not only to sharing our continent’s many wonders with as many people as we can, but also to its upliftment, protection and prosperity.

A large part of why we work in luxury travel is to benefit those who live and work in Africa – because, by travelling to one of the many countries we operate in, you’re contributing to the wellbeing of the many people who will welcome you on arrival and look after you during your stay.

Even more importantly, when you visit resorts, lodges and villas who work with local communities and non-profit organisations, you’re directly contributing to and playing a crucial role in sustainable tourism – through funds generated by responsible travel, the empowerment of people and the conservation of wilderness and wildlife is supported and sustained.

Partners in travel

We have chosen to form lasting partnerships with two organisations based in South Africa. The Good Work Foundation and the Kolisi Foundation – both of which seek to empower, uplift and educate, in turn ensuring the longterm benefit of those living in Africa, and the countries they call home.

Through empowering people, the ultimate preservation of wilderness and wildlife becomes possible. It’s only when people are educated, employed and uplifted that they can be expected to contribute actively and work to preserve the natural environment. It’s through creating a system where everyone – both environment and humans – benefits that we will see true progress in conservation.

Our partners

The Kolisi Foundation was founded on a vision to change the stories of inequality in South Africa with a goal of building thriving communities. In a model of collaboration, the foundation works alongside others to mobilise resources and strengthen infrastructure and learning. By focusing on issues that are particularly relevant in South Africa – such as education and sport, gender-based violence and food security – its goal is to effect lasting and systemic change through creating safe spaces for youth.

Centred around education, the Good Work Foundation aims to empower the youth by providing the necessary tools to enter the job market. In the rural areas where GWF’s operations are concentrated, the youth employment rate is an alarming 70%. To change the status quo, it works to strategically look at how and what young people learn, giving students access to world-class facilities to better prepare them for the world beyond school, in particular preparing them for the digital working landscape.
