Whale Huys

General Info

Whale Huys Luxury Eco Villa is a beautiful self-catering accommodation with unobstructed ocean views over Walker Bay, stretching from the quiet fisherman’s village of Gansbaai to Hermanus and beyond. Fall asleep and wake to the sound of the waves gently lapping at the rocks below, while a myriad of bird species enjoy the bounty of the surrounding natural fynbos plant life. Nestled in nature and with four well-appointed bedrooms (all ensuite), Whale Huys Eco Villa is the perfect holiday accommodation choice for large families, groups of friends or even couples looking for a private getaway.

Located less than two hours away from Cape Town International Airport, Whale Huys self-catering accommodation is well positioned as a weekend escape from Cape Town or Johannesburg. With Cape Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa, lying just 85km to the north, you’ll find Whale Huys the perfect spot to start your garden route tour.

The villa is built directly on the Whale Coast in the De Kelders (Overberg region, Western Cape), affording visitors some of the best land-based whale watching in the world directly from the numerous balconies and deck during the months of June to November! Also during the rest of the year, dolphins, seals, dassies (rock hyrax) and dozens of species of birds provide a delightful and intimate experience with nature.

Whale Huys combines the warmth and character of traditional thatched roof architecture with the luxury of a modern holiday villa. It boasts conveniences like satellite TV, fibre Internet and a laptop, which you can use to check your email, stay in touch with loved ones or surf the web. Each bedroom of this stunning Whale Coast self-catering accommodation opens out onto its own sea front balcony, affording visitors breath-taking views of our gorgeous coastline. The uninterrupted panoramic views of Walker Bay and the surrounding mountain range extend up to Hangklip and even the Cape of Good Hope on a clear day. Next to the infinity pool, a private path winds its way through the fynbos vegetation that is indigenous to the Western Cape, taking you to the water’s edge, or to a walking trail that extends from the one end of Gansbaai to the pristine beaches of the Walker Bay Nature Conservancy near Hermanus.

Other Info

Whale Huys self catering accommodation was lovingly created by Bruce and Eelco, a Dutch/American couple who – for 20 years – have been regular visitors to this part of South Africa. Bruce and Eelco purchased Whale Huys in April 2014 and applied decades worth of travel and holiday rentals experience to creating a relaxed, uncluttered and yet luxurious and homely environment. In 2018 they purchased the smaller bungalow next door (Guppy Huys) and developed it with the same eco principles in mind for guests looking for a smaller alternative to Whale Huys.
