Located in the beautiful and historical southern peninsula suburb of Simonstown – about 40km from central Cape Town – this may be one of the most charming beach houses around (a fact to which its perfect Airbnb score will attest!) Cool in summer and cosy in winter, it’s an idyllic stay all year. With unbelievable views (bring binoculars for whale and birdwatching) and a secret beach a short walk from the house, it’s private and quiet, yet easily accessible (with restaurants, antique shops, and a great yacht club on its doorstep, as well as hiking trails, SCUBA diving and swimming beaches very close by).
The space
This creative and charming villa has been beautifully decorated by a top designer and all paintings are by the former resident artist. With ultra-fast wifi, a shaded verandah, pool, and well-equipped with high-end kitchen equipment, it’s both ideal for low-key relaxation or stylish hosting. The large patio is sheltered from the wind (and can seat 16 for long sun-drenched lunches).
Peaceful, picturesque and ultra-safe (it is located next to a naval base with armed guards at the entry over the road from the house), it’s the ultimate space to escape, but is also equally suitable for corporate strategy getaways, teambuilding, and photo shoots.
The house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and so does the adjoining cottage – making it very versatile for groups.
The large award-winning garden was planted by Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens’ landscapers 30 years ago. Around 40 penguins live here, which makes it one of the only houses in Africa that can boast that! One of the house’s best attributes is Lottings, the superb house manager, who is always on hand to help with anything
